Iowa Hanging Clubtails

Hanging Clubtails are later season dragonflies and found exclusively around moving water.  Although none are particularly common, Iowa is at the edge of the range for the western Brimstone and the eastern Arrow.  Stylurus are difficult to photograph in the wild since they tend to patrol the rivers and then shoot high into the tops of trees to rest.  Your best best to see any of these is to wade a stream in the August heat and hope that one or more are patrolling.
