Rusty Snaketail | Sioux Snaketail
Iowa Snaketails

Snaketails are dragonflies of swift streams and more common nearly anywhere than the Midwest!  As might be expected from their habitat preference, these critters have been recorded only in the northeast.  Iowa does have the distinction, however, of being home to a newly discovered and named snaketail found only in Iowa and Wisconsin - the Sioux Snaketail.  Since this is the rarest of the clubtail genera in our state, just seeing one is pretty exciting.
