Shadow Darner - Aeshna umbrosa male lateral

Size: 2.9 in.

This late season species is one of our more common darners, sometimes found patrolling open woodlands along streams and small creeks. It seems to be less common in southern Iowa. The thoracic stripes are narrower than other darners and are yellowish. The blue spots on the male abdomen are greatly reduced from other blue darners.
